AVR Voices – A national storytelling project transforming lived experiences of vision loss into powerful advocacy for sight-saving research.
On Dementia Action Week let’s talk about dementia — and vision.
News presenter and Australian Vision Research Ambassador Sandra Sully AM speaks with Professor Keith Martin — Managing Director of the Centre for Eye Research Australia, Head of Ophthalmology at the University of Melbourne, and Director of Research (Victoria) for Australian Vision Research — about the link between vision, brain health and dementia. Dementia is Australia’s leading cause of death, yet it’s not talked about nearly enough.
Increasingly, researchers recognise that the eye is a window to the brain, and that vision impairment is a risk factor for dementia. Professor Martin explains what the research is telling us, and how the partnership between Australian Vision Research and the Centre for Eye Research Australia helps promising early-stage ideas become tomorrow’s discoveries. Every breakthrough begins with a question. Every conversation has the power to change lives.
